Spirit Airlines Spirit Airlines, Inc., also stylized as spirit, is a significant ultra-low-cost airline that operates out of the United States and has its headquarters in Miramar, Florida, located in the Miami metropolitan area. Spirit Airlines provides regularly scheduled service throughout the United States and to and from the Caribbean and Latin America. Ned Homfeld established the airline service in 1983 in Macomb County, Michigan, under Charter One Airlines. At the time, Charter One Airlines was a charter tour operator in Detroit that offered travel packages to entertainment hotspots, including Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas.
